An honest, area-by-area guide to where to stay in Agadir — from the beachfront promenade and Marina to Founty, the city centre and nearby Taghazout Bay — and how far each is from the airport.
For most visitors, the best place to stay in Agadir is the beachfront promenade — walkable to the sand, restaurants and sunset bars, with easy airport access. Founty (Sonaba) suits families and quieter, upscale resorts; the Marina is polished and central; the city centre is cheapest and most local; and Taghazout Bay, ~25 minutes north, offers luxury golf-and-surf resorts. All are roughly 30–45 minutes from Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA).
What's the best area to stay in Agadir overall?
For first-time visitors, the beachfront strip along the promenade is the easiest choice and the one we recommend most often. You're a short stroll from Agadir's six-kilometre Atlantic beach, the seafront walkway, casual cafés and the cluster of hotels that define the city's resort feel. Almost everything a holidaymaker wants — sand, sunset, dinner, a drink — is within walking distance, which matters in a city that's spread out and where there's no Uber or Bolt.
That said, "best" depends on your trip. Agadir isn't a medina city like Marrakech or Essaouira; it was rebuilt as a modern resort town after the 1960 earthquake, so neighbourhoods are defined more by proximity to the beach and the kind of resort you want than by historic character. The honest framing: pick your area by who you're travelling with and what you came for, not by a single "best" label.
Beachfront, Marina or Founty — how do the seafront areas differ?
All three sit on or beside the same long beach, but the mood changes as you move along it. The central beachfront promenade is the liveliest and most walkable — big-name hotels, beach clubs, restaurants and the buzz of people out for the evening. The Marina d'Agadir, at the northern end, is the most polished pocket: a modern yacht harbour ringed by smart apartments, seafood terraces and a calmer, more designed atmosphere. Founty (also called Founty Beach or the Sonaba zone) is the upscale resort belt at the southern end, with larger grounds, all-inclusive properties and more space between you and the crowds.
If you want to step out of your lobby straight into the action, choose the central promenade. If you want chic and quiet with good restaurants on your doorstep, the Marina is lovely. If you're after a classic resort holiday with pools, gardens and a calmer beach, Founty is the pick.
- Beachfront promenade — most walkable, liveliest, best for first-timers and couples who want everything on foot.
- Marina — polished, calmer, upmarket apartments and seafood; great for design-conscious travellers.
- Founty (Sonaba) — spacious resorts and all-inclusives; the family and "switch-off" choice.
Is staying in the city centre worth it?
The city centre — inland from the beach, around Souk El Had and the main avenues — is where you'll find the most local, least touristy version of Agadir, and the best value. Riads, guesthouses and budget hotels here cost noticeably less than beachfront resorts, and you're close to the enormous Souk El Had market, everyday restaurants and real city life.
The trade-off is that you'll need a taxi or a driver to reach the beach and the seafront dining, since the centre is a fair walk from the sand. For budget-minded travellers, longer stays, or anyone who wants to eat where locals eat, it's genuinely worth it. For a short beach holiday where you want sand on your doorstep, you'll likely prefer the seafront.
Should I stay in Taghazout Bay instead of Agadir?
Taghazout Bay, about 25 minutes north of Agadir, has become the region's luxury-and-surf alternative. The bay is home to large international resorts, a golf course and a more refined, low-rise coastal feel, while the original village of Taghazout just beyond it is the laid-back surf town with cafés, yoga and beach breaks. It's a different holiday from Agadir city: quieter, more scenic, more about the coastline than the urban promenade.
Choose Taghazout Bay if you want a destination resort, golf, surfing or simply a calmer, more upmarket coastal base — and you don't mind being out of the city. Just remember that for shopping, nightlife or the big-city buzz you'll be making the short trip back into Agadir, so factor a private driver or transfers into your plans rather than relying on taxis you can't easily hail.
How do I get from Agadir airport to my hotel?
Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) is about 25 km — roughly a 30-minute drive — from the city, and crucially there's no Uber or Bolt at the airport. That makes a pre-booked private transfer the simplest, least stressful way to reach your accommodation, with a driver meeting you in arrivals, tracking your flight and waiting free for up to 60 minutes if you're delayed at passport control or baggage.
Our fixed, per-vehicle prices make budgeting easy whichever area you've chosen: €25 to anywhere in Agadir city (beachfront, Marina, Founty or the centre) and €35 up to Taghazout Bay. No meter, no OTA middleman fee, no haggling after a long flight — the price you see is the price you pay, and you can book the whole thing over WhatsApp before you land.
